HOW ROAMLINE WORKS
One balance for data and travel tools: how Roamline credits work
12 June 2026 · 3 min read
Roamline has no per-product checkout. You add credits to one balance and spend them on data eSIMs today, and on a VPN and verification numbers when they launch. Here is how that works and why it is built that way.
Most travel apps charge for each thing separately: one checkout for an eSIM, a subscription for a VPN, another payment for everything else. Each one is another form, another card entry and another renewal to remember. Roamline uses a single balance of credits instead.
How credits work
- One credit is worth exactly €0.02, so €1 buys 50 credits and €10 buys 500.
- Every price on Roamline is shown in credits, with the equivalent in your chosen display currency beside it.
- Credits never expire.
- A price that does not divide evenly into credits is rounded up to the next whole credit.
Because a credit has a fixed value, it means the same thing whatever you spend it on. An eSIM priced at 20 credits costs €0.40, and it will cost the same number of credits tomorrow.
Topping up
You add credits by card, with Visa or Mastercard, in any whole amount from 1 to 20,000 of your chosen currency. Card top-ups open at launch. You pay in the currency you pick in the header, euro or US dollars, and credits are bought at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate.
Your card is only ever used to top up. A plan is always paid from your balance, never charged to your card directly, and there are no stored cards or automatic top-ups.
Spending the balance
At checkout, the price is taken from your balance in one step. There is no second payment form, and your balance after the purchase shows in the header straight away.
Today, credits buy data eSIMs for more than 200 destinations. The trip archive and day counter are included with your account at no cost. A private VPN and verification numbers are coming soon and will be paid from the same balance when they launch.
What happens when something goes wrong
A single balance makes failures simpler to put right:
- If an eSIM cannot be issued after you pay, the order is retried automatically, and if it still fails its full value is credited back to your balance without you asking.
- An eSIM that has not been installed can be cancelled from its order page for a full credit.
- Credits returned to your balance can be spent straight away on another plan, so you are not waiting for a card refund before you can buy the connectivity you need.
If you would rather have money back on your card, unused credits can be returned to the card that bought them within 14 days of the top-up, and an uninstalled order's value can be returned to your card if you ask within 14 days of the purchase. The Refund policy sets out the details.
No subscription
Nothing on Roamline renews. You top up when you choose, spend when you need to, and your balance simply stays until you use it. Every purchase is one-off and visible on your balance ledger, which lists each top-up, purchase, credit and refund with the balance after it.
Why we built it this way
Travelers buy connectivity in short, urgent moments: at home the night before, at a gate, or on arrival. A single balance means those moments involve one tap rather than a new payment form, and the same balance covers every service Roamline adds, without a second account or subscription.
